King William Road Bikeway
Back in May, the detailed design for King William Road Bikeway (Mike Turtur Bikeway/Greenhill Road) was unanimously endorsed for construction.
This much needed upgrade is a priority project in the Walking and Cycling Plan's implementation and will facilitate greater connection between Unley and Adelaide. Benefits of the project include:
A consistent 4m wide shared path
Improved 1.5m wide southbound bike lane with 0.5m wide buffers
Two new pedestrian crossing facilities*, and
175 square metres of landscaping including 41 new trees
*bicycle refuge shown in concept design improved to include pedestrian crossing in detailed design
Having commenced in 2021/22 and reached completion in March this year (following DIT approval for traffic signal changes), it's great to finally have this project's detailed design endorsed. With this, State and/or Federal funding can now be sought for construction delivery.
ICYMI
Unley Rd has been in the minds of many the past two weeks following moves by some to address its congestion (read: car) issues. The suggestion that removing bike lanes along the corridor could be the solution has sparked fresh discussion about the road's future, prompting UBUG's Daniel Grilli to ask: what sort of place do we want Unley Rd to be? Read Daniel's take, here.
Social Rides
Our Monthly Coffee Outside is on tomorrow with a trip down history lane. Bring your curiosity and sense of exploration as we capitalise on the connectivity of Colonel Light Gardens' network of laneways. Hope to see you there!
As a reminder, the rides we run are:
Weekly social rides on Tuesdays, departing 9:30am from the Unley Community Centre.
Monthly Coffee Outside rides on the first Saturday of every month, departing 9am from the Unley Town Hall Carpark. Bring coffee and a willingness to chat! The next ride is August 3.
Quarterly Adventure Rides for those who like to get their tyres dirty. These are held on a Saturday, with the next ride being on September 21.
Anyone is welcome!
